i've made an annual tradition of taking off from work on my birthday. i set out this year to ride my age...

i came up 0.62 miles short, which is sort of ridiculous and awesome at the same time! for what it's worth, my son later rode his bike to school which is a little over a mile, so we decided that would make up the difference. so, there's that.

anyways, i also completed the Edison to Bound Brook RR Track route, which i've been eyeing up for some time. this allowed me to complete the 48+ mile local loop, with only 5 miles of road.

saw some cool stuff along the way...

this turkey vulture...

this building reminded me of the pink floyd animals album cover, minus the smokestack

the conrail tracks have these handy mileage markers! who needs strava?!

this is the eastern-most end of the RR tracks that run through raritan center...basically unrideable...hike-a-bike only...

group ride at LewMo

we started along the patriots path from whitehead road and the conditions were super dicey, and icey.

instead of navigating the ice/snow up the back side of that climb we rode the road to the lake...did the northern loop, which was really nice / frozen...we then headed across the street and just started rolling on whatever wasn't completely ice covered (which wasn't much!) that said, after a while, as we got our confidence up, the riding was actually pretty good. anything that wasn't under ice or snow was still frozen, and the snow was rideable...so it was just the ice (on the north facing slopes) that was a problem...anyways, it was a great day to be outside! i saw another post from a rider who got out later than we did, and i could imagine that the conditions were crap later in the morning...

here's my group shot with the focus trained on those rocks in the foreground...so yes, i suck at phonetography!

The wife went to work, I tired the toddler out, she came home, toddler was snoring and away I went on the gravel bike. Took it easy as a big ride planned for Sunday, rain or shine, Sourland Classic! Ugh, rain.
Joe and I set out from my driveway through the surrounding area of Hartshorne woods, Atlantic Highlands, stopped for a really good espresso from a lady who was probably high as a kite. I guess we should expect more and more of that.
I didn't want to go crazy even though it felt great to be outside. I for some reason want to ride all of Sandy Hook, but no local buddies want to, they complain its flat, cold and wind. I need to get it out of my system. Little dirt mixed into this ride, a lot of road. Great time.
Have a good Saturday night and update on Sunday.

I had a meeting in New Brunswick this morning and then drove up to Bridgewater and parked my car at the Municipal Building. Afterwards, I rode my bike down to New Hope. I arrived a bit early, so I did a loop up to the Bowman's Hill Tower. That was a pretty tough climb. I then rode back to New Hope, but I was still early. I then did a small loop on the Solebury Township Trail and then back to New Hope for a really nice lunch at Marsha Brown.

No ride pictures but I did get a workout salvaging what was a total wreck of a kitchen table from my childhood...

Between avoiding riding on the road, not owning a fat bike, and patiently waiting for trails to dry....I'm pretty much out of this contest. Plus I spent another long weekend last week riding at Ray's in Ohio. But I'll continue posting until spring since I started.

Went to Hoffmann Park to exercise the dog. The place was saturated, but the trails are paved so I shouldn't have pissed anyone off.

A chilly way to die.

Rays Indoor Park.....I know all the riding I have done there this winter doesn't count for this contest
