Commuter Bike with snow tires test ride.

Had not used the snow tires in two years so a test ride on MLK before attempting a commute seemed wise. Less road ice than I expected but the wind was deadly. Had to lean into heavy cross winds on the ride fortunately the gusting was easy to anticipate so nothing went wrong.

Stopped at Sahara for a kebab on the way home, thought the name alone would warm me up. ?

Dressed well ( two hoods, extra wind shell and pulled an old set of Gore shoe cover over my Lake boots.

first time on this magic snow (does that count for the bonus)

it was awesome looked like snow, felt like snow, rode like dirt :O i want more of this (could do with a bit less wind, but staying on the south side of the mtn took care of that nicely).

also magic ice was present, looked like ice but was NOT slippery like ice . . .

I don't believe in "magic snow"

I have documented proof of magic snow on my Instagram from last year’s storm where we had to cut out close to what was probably 250+ trees at 6MR.

This shuttered building is on the way to the local trails, up 300 yard of curving wooded driveway, which I have ridden by hundreds of times on the way to the trailhead. When it was built circa 1917 (???) is was a summer playground for a surgeon in the rustic UC. 11 years ago it was a functioning HQ for a 501(c)

Wish now that I had checked it out sooner (Thanks fak3 rick!), because I could see from where I took this picture that it has some trail on the property in the front and maybe on the back, too. Have to explore it a bit.

Oh, and it was cold. Averaged 12 degrees, 28mph wind with gusts to 44, which is good weather for some quick TM, but not a DMC.
