@fidodie You seem to be kicking yourself over the troubleshooting stumble, but you should instead be patting yourself on the back. That's a significantly technical project you took on and successfully completed. Nice job!

Thanks!
In all it cost me 3ish hours, and i had to walk away and sleep on it, before focusing on the thermostat.
Just seems like it could have been eliminated earlier in the process.

I'll note that it has not engaged since the temps have come up, and the wind has died down!

Probably saved a enough coin to buy a fancy wheelset.. :D

Nice work Pat. Is this a separate AC/air handler unit for that part of the house? I'm having trouble putting it all together in my head.

Shit, I should have been using this excuse all along....

It is a separate system - dedicated to the room off the back of the house.
Main air handler is in the attic - and wasn't large enough to handle the heat gain in the summer.
Not to mention plumbing it would have been a nightmare.

Better to fund the 529 with the savings...it avoids friction in other areas ;)

We put in Thermadore, which is the same as Bosch. Quiet AF. The only way you know it's on is the blue light it shines on the floor. Not cheap doe.
Thermador makes good stuff, especially the newer pieces, as they seem to have figured out the electronics
Having been a professional dishwasher in a large part of my early teen years and a graveyard shift chemist, I'm impartial to Miele equipment. They are absolutely the most dependable workhorses, but you pay the price for the Porsches of dishwashers. The lower end Pro series is a bargain if want to be serious.

Did you happen look into mini-splits? They are really popular in Asia and the HVAC guys here, tell me they are getting popular as homeowners realize it's stupid to heat a whole house over 4K sqf, even with two zones.

I did - it was a non-starter for the spouse because of the bulk of the indoor unit, and where it would have to be placed.

Looking at using a low temp one in the upstate ny basement project. they come pre-charged. drill hole in wall, hook up 20 amp line, hang IDU, put ODU on pad, connect, turn-on.
I like the fact they can be programmed as dehumidifiers too.

Front camera on 2018 GMC Sierra -

Good one today - I can't stand that i can't surf mtbnj while driving, on the car's 8" screen. Purchased one of those aftermarket video mirroring systems for the new truck, and it comes with camera inputs. So i purchased a front camera - actually, at the price, i purchased 3.

1 flush mount - http://a.co/2How1Ze
1 bracket mount - http://a.co/fyvr1cp (this could also be flush mounted)
1 post mount - http://a.co/34NnPsl

Took advantage of the warmer weather to start the camera install.

Here is the front.

Internet had a couple options - 1 included 2-face tape. I'm sure body side molding tape would hold, bet meh. They wanted to stick it to the bottom of the 'M' - i'd drill it and put a couple of small screws in first. On top of the license plate frame, or through the license plate - but this seemed too low. I opted for flush mounting on the front of the grillwork.
I hate to drill through a body panel, and this would be a no-brainer if the truck was black, but i committed and made it happen. Came out OK.

I'll finish up fishing the wire through to the cab, and installing the video unit tomorrow.

You could have installed the camera in the grill so it would be harder to notice how you just fucked up your car.

Will the monitor be on your left thigh so you can text and drive while looking at the right?

funny - in the thumbnails - one pic looks off to the left, the other looks off to the right.

I did think about mounting it in the darker area - probably should have - that whole red trim piece comes off - maybe i'll switch it to black,
and start adding all the black accents. I can't see the camera unless i'm standing in front of the truck. So i won't stand there!

i took a guess on which way was up for the camera - i can't wait to see what i get.

That is a big no-no! I don't think it's even legal, in any case it shouldn't be with the car in gear at least...

for off-road use only....

primary reason is that the built in navigation sucks. Carplay sucks. I haven't used android auto, but i bet it sucks less, but still sucks.
The touch screen is not active with this unit either. More when i finish up today.

Was there an option for swapping out the head unit entirely? I know that's not always possible on newer vehicles. But that would definitely give you a better screen.

I didn't look, If it is anything like the Jeep options, i'm sure there is a 10" version available with a custom bezel. The 8" screen isn't bad, just in sunlight for the pic. here is a better one, even in the sun.
just the screen, not the content.

The interface is programmable from the PC for various options. It wasn't set up correctly here, hence the digital noise.
