I once rode up around the corner on Horse up to a bow-drawn hunter on Horse. He looked pretty scared himself hearing something moving fast towards him. Luckily he didn't release. I started riding with a bear bell after that and made sure to wear orange or yellow during all of hunting season.

Not exactly, modern muzzle loaders are very accurate, talking 1” groups at 100 yards, tight groups up to 200. Slug drops pretty quickly after that.
