The mtbnj trail directory said one should not bring carbon bikes to Sourlands.
But I think you do need a lighter bike to make those hike a bike easier.

It is the tech, and not the mileage - expect to average under 4mph. Not that there aren't any fun, dh type stuff,
and even the climbs are not that horrible. But the tech, and techy climbs, and re-tries, and alternate lines!!!!
Word of advice courtesy of @Ryan.P - rotate your brake handles up a bit, so your hands are "behind" the bars and not on top
of them, that way your weight doesn't bury the fork if you get in a position to lean on the bars (which you should not do in most cases)
Also, leave your brake handles loose enough on the bars so you can move them with a little effort. same with your stem. This will keep stuff from
breaking when emergency dismounting.
