This is the kind of input I was looking for.

I think I may put a 30t on the back too. I need a new big ring in the front.
Do you run Sram or Shimano cassette and chain?
I Have always run Shimano cassettes and chains or kmc chains. Those seam rings can be had for good prices on eBay.

I don't think Shimano makes a 10sp cassette with a gear bigger than 28. Am I crazy?

Hmm, maybe in 105, however that would
Probably require a long cage derailluer as the 10 spd red is fairly short.

My bad, the 11-30 was new for the r8000 ultegra and I think the latest dura ace, which are both 11spd.

What are the gears on it now? 11-25? 11-28? Compact or full crank?
KMC chain, cause quick link. Although I guess Shimano has one now too.

Kmc quick link works on Shimano and Sram chains.

Peep wolf tooth roadlink, which they say works with Sram, it is a linkage to run a higher cassette so you could get a 10 spd Mtb cassette without changing your derailleur.

You could get a SRAM 10 sp cassette, 11-32. You may need Kev's Wolftooth roadlink doe.... more than 11-32 is prolly unnecessary.

What do you have on the front? 39-53? 36-52? 34-50?

34 50. It's a compact.

I must have just gotten used to my mtb gearing. Even in the lowest gear I'm crawling up some of these local hills with a cadence of around 45. After a while my knees start feeling that.

sounds like you could benefit from Subcompact gearing. Lots of gravel folks are running things like 48/32 or 46/30 on the front. Because #gravelsohotrightnow there are many more ultra-low choices. 46/30 with a 11-32 should get you up the Moonlight Buttress

I think a 46 30 is what I'm looking for. I'll leave the 28 in the back. I'd probably need a new crank tho cause not sure if that would fit on my Red Crank. 110 bcd.

Speaking of road bikes....

This'll really make my trainer work outs better.

You’re probably going to need a new crankset for anything less than 34. Praxis 32/48 comes in 110 l bcd but it’s supposedly only compatible with their cranks. Maybe u just need a motor assist unit in the down tube.
