Went to CR after a morning of "have to do's" post #boardmeeting. Noticed on the truck thermometer on the way there that the temperature was 8 degrees warmer that forecast, but was on the road already so plowed through some phone calls and drove there quickly. Wheels down and went over to the White Trail. Within 200 yards of trailhead it got greasy. Went another 600 yards and decided to change the plan. Over to Frolf, still greasy.

Between walking around the slop and kicking up mud, decided to call it a day. I would be riding the Wangchung, two miles from the front door if I didn't live in the UC with a bunch of bat shit crazies who don't want to share their private park. Fuck all.

Only folks whose lives in Big City understand these, why there's chairs, toys, garbage cans or even garbage bags is left on the streets...people's placed anything just to keep off some assholes off from taking or claim their hard work after digging out their cars out from snow,if one does it mean war for them,so,.don't even thinking of trying to takes other claimed parking spot...or else.

@goodvibe picked the perfect place. Huber and Hartshorne were covered with 3" of frozen compressed slush that was topped with just enough snow dust to make it grippy. We flew around, except for the odd patch of ice:

How do you wind up off the bike like that and not all tangled up in it?
I always wind up in and under my bike! Wait....you said "flew around",
that must be the answer! I'm just too slow! I'll have to work on that.

3/13 - 3/16: 0 points. Bad time to choke.

I had to travel to NC for work. Plan was to stop 1/2 way down at Fountainhead in VA. Then have bike with me in NC for a couple morning rides. Then stop 1/2 way on the return trip at Patapsco in MD (where snow was not expected to be so deep). Of course, I chose the fattie for that potential snow ride on the return.

Great plan...right?

I'm 2 miles into the trails in Fountainhead and I'm coming up a climb so I get up on the pedals and hear this loud crack. My first instinct was that I broke my chain. That would've been great news. Not the chain. Free-hub is spinning free in both directions. Take wheel off and cassette falls off. I broke the thru axle inside the cassette body and in the process ate a couple of the pawl springs on the free-hub. 4 rides planned, 0 rides had. And likely an expensive repair.

Take it away @teabagger11
