Lyme diease

Just a friendly reminder to wear bug spray and check yourself for ticks after every ride.

I was bit last week and was diagnosed with Lyme yesterday. I'm fairly certain the tick came from 6MR as it was the only place I had ridden recently and two of my fellow riders pulled off ticks that day as well.

Ice Cube said it best: Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

I had a deer tick nibbling on me last week, too. I shower as soon as i get home and check myself on every nook and cranny so I pulled it out while it was still shallow and haven't had any signs of anything worse, yet.

Speedy recovery, dude!

Sorry to hear about that.
When do you start treatment?
when did you find out what was going on?

The bite is on my leg, just below my knee. I learned about the diagnosis on Sunday about a week after I think I was bit. I started treatment the next day. Treatment is a three week course of antibiotics.

I had it a few years ago, I never saw the tick nor did I have any sort of rash. I think people react differently to the infection but I got violently ill; crazy high fevers - went from burning up to getting extreme chills. This lasted for a few days but I remember being so tired and having zero energy for at least a few months after.

sorry to hear about the diagnosis. best of luck in the recovery. i had it in 2006 and the fever/chills thing happened to me as well. once i was on the antibiotics, i was much better within days, back on the bike fairly soon after too.

i'm pretty cautious about the ticks now, and make sure to shower and check after any ride (esp at 6 mile). but even so, i'll often find a tick on my neck or head the day after. i keep my hair buzzed short too so i don't know where the hell they hide.

On the headrest in your car! Your car is already filled with formaldehyde so why not spray a little tick repellant also (unless you have kids...).

Incredibly profound yet fantastically flawed

I think you're right Bout reacting differently -- like you, I had the crazy high fevers and the chills, also had crippling muscle aches. But after I finished my antibiotics, I actually recovered pretty quickly. The worst part is the lingering psychological concerns -- every time I feel tired or experience any kind of cramp (no matter how long I've been riding) I wonder if it's Lyme coming back.

MBacon - stick to your antibiotic regimen and then schedule a follow-up a few months down the line with an infectious disease specialist. You'll get a full workup and you'll know if it's really gone.

Lyme disease help

Does anyone know of a good doctor that treats Lyme and/or symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis? I have a friend who lives in Atlantic Highlands who has already been diagnosed with Lyme and is looking for a doctor. She may also have RA, so she needs those symptoms diagnosed more thoroughly and then treated also.
Any good doctor in NJ will be considered, but the closer to home the better.
Thanks for any suggestions.

My wife and I were treated by Dr. Ellen Hirsch with ID Care out of the Hillsborough office.
