Link required w/ 11-42 cassette?

I've heard that a link is not required on SRAM RD's but are for Shimano.
I'll be using a SRAM GX 10 speed, medium cage with a 11-42 cassette.
Will the link result in better chain-wrap?

I bought the link but didn't need it.
(it also wouldn't fit my frame)
I have the sunrace 42t with a GX RD, works fine.
