Lacing recommendations for kids 20" wheels

I'm building a wheelset for my daughter. They're 20" rims, 32H, and going on a Trek Superfly 20 with rim brakes.

All the wheels ive built until now have been 3x. I doubt my 40lb daughter needs the strength of a 3x setup, especially with 32 spokes, so I was thinking of going 2x to cut down on weight.

Any reason not to go with 2x lacing for her bike??

Just ran the numbers and the weight difference is going to be that of ~1.5 spokes per wheel... so yeah, not as much weight savings as I envisioned....

Main reason to use 1x or 2x on small wheels is to avoid having the spokes running at extreme angles along the hub flange (or covering neighboring spoke holes). It is a bigger issue with high flange hubs/small rims, but hold a few in place and see what you are going to wind up with.
