Going Long and Hard.

Drop bags are prepped. Need to be in the mail on MONDAY!! It's somewhat interesting trying to think about what I might want in Rohn, 3 days into this race? I'm fairly certain it will involve none of the things I packed in these bags. ?

And then double that for the drop in Finger Lake which is even harder to prep for because it's so early in the race. But I figure I'll start with minimal calories and have room on the bike for the long push over Rainy Pass and the even longer push up to Rohn. There's a very good possibility it could take 2 full days to get from one drop to the next. Given the somewhat warm temps happening in AK right now, I don't suspect the trail to be fast.

What's the distance again - 500 miles?

Here is a peek into Ultra OCD. This has taken many years to work out but I'm 40% sure it's exactly what I need it to be.

Here's my non-drive side bags that no one sees because of strict Instagram rules.

Front NDS bag. Spare food and cook system. Each put in it's own stuff sac before going into the Anything Bag.

Rear NDS bag, which is a Specialized Burra Bag FYI. Various face and hand things. Nosehat. Neck gaitor. Etc...

DS bag that everyone sees. Shell and layer storage.

And the Yeti Rambler mounted behind it in a Specialized Burra Cage, obviously.

Specialized 686 shell goes in a stuff sac and sits in the back of the frame bag. There's room in the front for my Therminal Hoody if I end up in a short sleeve Jersey, which isn't likely.

Top tube bag has roughly 4,000 calories in it with room for more if needed.

Very cool preparation info Jim. Thanks for sharing.

Doing a fair bit of Winter camping, I can honestly say I'm quite impressed at what you've shrunk you total kit down to!

It's the confusion and distractions at the checkpoints that will undue the best planning. I read of folks leaving crucual items behind only to realize many miles down trail, and always zip packs back up! Consider tethers to things easily dropped into the snow, like your GPS.
