Going Long and Hard.

Phone post. Top loop, 16:16. Rained 3-4 hours in the morning followed by brutally humid conditions. Stopped 3 times outside of Control Points for water.

When I got back to the hotel I opted for a good meal and a night's rest being a 24 hour time was off the table.

Left this morning at 5am to hit daybreak. Was the last one to leave.

Spent the day going through the field as the legs were primo. These sub 200 mile days are starting to come pretty easy at this point.

The sun was pretty bad today as well but the volunteers had random water stops between controls which was a lifesaver.

July. Had a fun time with the 31/31 Challenge. Spent all but one day riding the Timberjack in the woods, and had a bunch of good rides with boy. Fun, fun, fun. Today is my first day off the bike since a week before the 600k so, I'm thankful to get a little recovery. Will spend August getting back up to the bigger mileage rides in prep for a 1200k in October. Will be perfect to keep me on track for the winter ultra season.

What are the details of the 1200k? Is that just as fast as you can go or do they require you to sleep or anything like that?

They haven't posted route data or control times yet. Generally speaking few folks will break under 70 hours during a 1200. I'll be preparing to ride with as minimal rest as possible but need to see the route and areas to resupply before setting firmer times. I know there are long stretches where there are no overnight supply points.

What state is this happening in? Or states, plural.

North Carolina. Or at least the last route was all in North Carolina, I've seen routes on this guy's RWGPS that cover more states so I'm not sure which he's using. They usually won't post final routes until a couple weeks out.

Wow, this is impressive. I don't even know how to wrap my head around the idea of 7.5 centuries in a 70-ish hour span. I haven't done 7 centuries in my life.

I skipped the earlier 1200 because it stays near the water and is basically the same as the Randos we have here in Jersey, flat, busy, etc...I'm hoping the TC route heads West over the Blue Ridge. Will make for a much harder ride but a lot prettier IMO. It's a ways out so I'm not going to think about it too much and just hope I've done enough prep. My mileage is over 8k for the year already so I've got the time in...

Dosen't look to bad, most of the Elevation is in the beginning. :D

That's the Coastal Route, the TC1200 is supposed to stay more in the middle and maybe hit as far west as the Blue Ridge.

Anyhoo, 2 of the big events I want to do are both on the same day. Er, weekend. The 24-hour race in VA and the TC1200. WTF? I have friends doing both. And both are the week after our HB Retreat at Raystown. What the balls.

These are the difficulties of having what Mrs. G jokingly calls "an active lifestyle".
