i turned correction on and it knocked a few feet off the gain, but yah it doesn't feel like 1000 feet.

i was doing hill repeats, but not that many since i'm too fat

Count the peaks on the elevation graph. There are ten obvious 100' climbs. Plus plenty of other little ups and downs. I don't see any reason to suspect the total is wrong.
