Last nights ride...my rear dr cable snapped for some reason...surprising since it was only a couple months old...I turned the high limit in enough to keep the bike in 7th gear and finish the ride.

The past few days are not really worth writing about but here goes.

7/29 -- https://www.strava.com/activities/356999810

New MTB tires arrived at 4 PM so I figure get these on and head out for an hour local. Have issue with compressor...end up spending two hours outside working to get them seated with no luck. By this point I've sweated so much my kid asked me if it started raining. I give up and go on local road ride with not much of anything happening. I did ride by my wife's old house which looks really strange to see even though it's just the next town over.

July 30 -- https://www.strava.com/activities/357530917, https://www.strava.com/activities/357700634, https://www.strava.com/activities/357719799 = 1 hr, 9 mins.

Wake up and decide that since I have dentist appointment at 10:30, the plan will be a late afternoon MTB ride. Get some work done, visit dentist, come home and work on the tires again. Realize the valve adapter is restricting the air pressure from filling up the tires fast enough so I remove the stems and they seat right away. Get that squared away and wife tells me we are having guests for dinner at 6. Great. Check the weather and looks like a shit storm starting at 5 until after midnight. So I gear up and head to HT when a buddy calls me, "Hey, what's your riding plan today?" Tells me he'll meet me in a half so I ride a bit, mess around on a few logs and wait for him. As soon as we meet up thunder/lightening start so we bail to the cars and it starts down pouring. 39 mins completed. I figure that'll have to due but then run some errands on the bike later to make it a hour total.

Oh -- I made a video! #saynotoverticalvideos

PLANNING to ride Ringwood today around 1 to finish this month off on some legal/legit trails. We'll see if I make it there...if not SoMo ;)

It's been real and its been fun!

I tried to print that but my printer did it all black and cant read the times so I will be printing out from the activities page....multiple pages :(
Yeah, the circles come out all black, blocking the text if I just print directly from the browser. So, I took a screenshot (Alt+PrtSc) and printed that instead.

My final ride for the event/contest... nothing special, just tried to get the hour in before work...

No speed records were harmed in the making of this ride

I decide to cap off the month with a decent effort since I put in "just an hour" on more than a few occasions. I rolled out the front door at 8:30 for a 65 mile road loop. Mentally I was 100% in but there was some nagging idea in the back of my head that I should just cut it short and keep it close to home. I thankfully ignored that and went through with the plan. I didn't feel energetic but my legs weren't boat anchors either, since I had managed to give them a full 26 hours of rest. The climbs weren't my favorite part but I never really struggled, just took it slow anddidn't really push it. I'm looking forward to how I'll feel with a little bit of rest. I did come home mega dehydrated, but don't worry I'm fixing that with a beer.

Nice work to all who did it! @jnos last night I was thinking of trying this every other month, that would definitely be a challenge!

52 hours and 657 miles. By far some personal records there, I hope to keep my game up for the next few months at least.

Drove to drop off the rental van, then rode to CR, tried to cut out that tree Woody posted about but realized it's way too big, rode CR, then found that the Middlebrook (whatever it's called) Trail goes way further than I thought, then off to D's work to get the car. She's riding home from work to top off her 31.

31/31 - closed out the contest month with Allan Hill's "High Society" Sourlands route in reverse during a much needed vacation day. What a nice ride to finish out the 31/31 Contest with.
Bonus was a start and finish at Halter's Cycles, the HQ for the July 31/31 Contest.

July Highlights....

Weight reduction by 7 pounds
49 hrs and 501 miles in July
Several wheel turning morning starts at 5:30am (first for me)....once on the roll it turns out to be a good thing
Only 4 ride starts that needed extra motivation to roll out and make something happen....4 hard starts
4 day business trip in Amsterdam (AMS), many miles on a Holiday Inn special rental bike @ with an ROI of 60 euros
Guided thru back streets of AMS by a homeless bike riding Dutch guy to find coffee shop that opened at 7AM (guy was fast)
Rode the famous AMS Red Light District (yes there are red lights) and a lot of window shopping available
Met some new MTB friends in PA willing to invite me back for Wednesday night rides in Marsh Creek state park and drinks afterwards to visit the Golden Monkeys and Hop Devils at Victory Brewing Company
Got wet on only two rides from rain showers, stung by one bee, no flats, no mechanicals or body part failures
Several Puking Unicorn shut outs while spinning in PA, there is Unicorn love in PA
Great motivation to ride more because you can...it is easy if you make it happen

Thanks Jason - The Stigmata has me thinking...again!

There you have it folks. Looks like I made it.

First off, thanks to JDog for the motivation to get out more often than we would have.
Second off, Congrats to all who made it through the month!
Feels like a pretty large graduating class we have here.
Nice work folks.

By the numbers:
Rides: 31
Hours: 41:34
Miles: 469.42
Bikes ridden: 6 (unless you count unique CitiBikes, then 83)
Flats: 1
Pounds lost: 8 or 9
Times it was hard to get started: 3 or 4
Solo rides: too damn many
Times I was run off the road by my MiL: 1

Numbers are less (except the MiL stat) than when I did this 2 years ago.
About what I expected, since I don't yet have the logistics in place for a dedicated bike commute like I had last time.
I did not do anything heroic (one rain ride, no night rides), but I enjoyed the rides I did.

Maybe half my rides were on my trusty N+1 blue 3-speed,
since I did a lot of extended commutes and lunch rides to make this happen.
Not sure how I would have fared had that not been an option.

Had a lot of fun distracting myself with naming the rides and trying to find a picture.
I will celebrate by treating myself to a beer,
you know, after I finish the one I'm drinking now.

Day 31: Fin.

Made it. Wow! Like many other ppl, my ride today was unspectacular, except (wait for it)... I did it on a sweet new (to me) bike! I bought a Giant TCX from @ChrisRU at lunch, drove home, put air in the tires, adjusted the seat, slapped on some pedals and took my final ride on my completion present.

Congratulations to everyone who hung in there! Great job!

Stats:
47 hours, 645 miles
Most rides after 9 pm.
Lost 8 pounds

This has been an arduous but really rewarding challenge.

Glad you made it. Had me nervous with all those late rides. Motivation is tough at that hour.

And yay new bike! Nice reward.

Its over!!!!

I started my ride tonight thinking its the last one, all I need is an hour and I am good. Well that quickly changed with some simple math... Personal goal was 500 miles this month, I hit that earlier this week so today I realized all I need is 18.1 to get to 550. Well last nights ride was an EASY hour to just get my time in, well that was exactly what my body needed, I got to mile 4 tonight and just got past all of the lights and traffic I would have to deal with and figured ahh what the heck I get to rest tomorrow! So I picked up the pace to my fastest ride of the month and ended up doing 18.4 and set 2 PRs.

https://www.strava.com/activities/358323637/segments/8533399497

31 days
32 rides
41:51 hours
550.3 miles
1 flat tire
1 group ride
1 ride in the rain
1 ride at 4am before work trying out the new lights
10 lbs lost

cant wait till next year, now I have a bench mark to meet and exceed! Congrats to all who finished! see you at the shop tomorrow to collect our 100$!!
