I think my best cat 1 results were racing SS in the non-SS class. You’ll do fine.
I wasn’t planning on SS class this year but have some friends that are undecided where to race now. But I guess guys like @pooriggy will be forced to 50+ or pro. I am racing open just because I want to get faster to improve my endurance racing the next few years.

Just forces you to race your age group or open sadly. You guys can all compare your times afterwards ;)

What kind of numbers did cat 1 SS pull? I always remember it at least being 7-10 people.

If it makes y’all feel any better, they combine the pro category and cat 1 19-39 for XC... FART NOISE

Really? lol...I don't remember any H2H Cat1 SS races having that many. Maybe 7-8, but I don't recall a 10+ field in a regular H2H series race.

damn, maybe you are right. my mind must be stuck on the olden days, i was just looking at older results...

2011 cat 2 SS
wayway - 20 starters
tymor - 10 starters
kvsp - 12 starters

and then MASS Cat 2 races, forget it.
fair hill - 36 starters
iron hill - 24 starters
fair hill classic - 27 starters

All of last years results are here:

http://www.h2hrace.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=175&Itemid=155

Decisions to change categories were based off of last years numbers.

What is the minimum number of racers each category should have?

I guess it depends on who you ask and why they're racing. Also depends on the category imo.

I believe that the slower categories need more people competing. It'll be much more fun for them to be involved in a large group. So I'd say cat2-3 should aim for 12-15 at a minimum.
The higher level categories need less racers, but they need them to be more competitive.

Yea, I always remember the MASS series having bigger turnouts and attracting some faster guys.

I know it's like beating a dead horse, but all of the other series anywhere are more popular when USAC isn't involved. Why H2H is stuck on this super simple issue is baffling to me.

Pffft you don't even know the age brackets. I'm in 55 to 64 - I feel pretty good if I get top 10 in that bracket on segments, even better if I get top 10 overall. I know for most road segments that's not happening, but I can pull off some mtb ones.

Do you still own the new trail at SMP, I will
Personally address that one if so.

I will admit your Mercer times were respectable for an old dude.

KOM holder uses Stages. Or weighs 110 pounds. PS-I know the KOM holder, weighs like 170 pounds.

I think everyone should be thrown into 1 giant category. Then you can provide a web site where you can filter the results by 1000 different permutations. And order a medal based on the category you decide you rode in.

This has a name. It’s called “triathlon”

My 2 cents.Super lame h2h doing away with singlespeed.
I know most on the board are h2h racers but in my opinion mass series is so much better.
Scoring chips on plates every race, quicker results and better turnouts.
Last year Ringwood race was ran in shit conditions on a smaller revised loop.. just reschedule.
I plan to hit a few h2h races this year seeing that they have a few new races.
Mass series i also notice has more of a team competitive atmosphere.
i know a few racers on mass teams and they make it more of a point to even just show up to a race to at least get points for the team.
On the h2h website they dont even list team standings.
