After a short interview of my health history and recent symptoms, then the all important pulse measurement, he diagnosed me with chronic fatigue.
Did you explain how much cleaning you've been doing? It should be no wonder your fatigued.

you boil the herbs for an hour and make a tea, it's really bitter

here's the dr's report, says to stock up on ginger, scallions, cinnamon, honey, etc. Also a few items to avoid for my ulcer and arthritic joints.

also found out one of my favorite shops in town was closing down, been going to this tofu shop since '75. All the good shit here is just about gone. It's on Mott near Pell, only open a few more days till new years. Sad

Headed to Wuxi where my wife's family are from. It's about the distance from NYC to Philly, but with the high speed trains it only takes 40 mins. Shanghai is about the size of LA county and has close to 30 million residents, Wuxi has 7 million. In comparison NYC has less than 9 million.

went out two days ago in search in search of the fabled mountain bike trails in Huishan, a park in Wuxi. I posted a thread here about a race hosted by Banshee last year.

biking in China is great, usually have isolated lanes for bikes and scooters. Just watch out for right hooks, cause no one yields here, even to on coming traffic
WP_20170410_09_28_46_Pro.jpg

In smaller cities like Wuxi, it doesn't take long to see the real China

after an hour I finally found dirt! Not exactly the same location as the race, but miles of overgrown single track with potential. Loads of climbs and rocky fun. The trails were not well marked and was a rainy day so only explored for 30 mins before getting back on the road. Next time I'll bring some better wheels, disc brakes, meatier tires and friends.

lots of fancy places in Shanghai like Xintiandi to people watch
WP_20170412_15_15_34_Pro.jpg

but my favorite places are the older reclaimed markets like Tianzifang
WP_20170413_12_39_34_Pro.jpg

and M50, which are a collection of artist studiosand galleries located in a previously unused industrial park
WP_20170416_12_44_29_Pro.jpg

and 1933 which is a repurposed cattle slaughter house into a convention center with retail space, the architecture was like an MC Escher picture which even impressed my brother and girl friend who are both in the architecture and design field
WP_20170416_16_02_20_Pro.jpg

then there was Alley 99 which was the location of the first street lamp in Shanghai and hasn't changed much for over 100 years
WP_20170416_22_41_20_Pro.jpg

but one of my favorite experiences this time here was finally sitting in to hear the oldest Jazz band in the world, as they average 80 years old and really do a great job in making you feel like you are in old Shanghai from the 30s and 40s.

we hit a vegetarian restaurant, which is not usually my staple, but the faux breaded cutlet and the grain salad was outstanding with the choice of Asian spices, this was 5 kinds of fungi

love street food which is ironic in all of Asia
this one is a baked salt of quail eggs and beggars chicken, which is a bird cooked in a layer of mud
WP_20170414_13_46_47_Pro.jpg

did not eat this one for obvious reasons
WP_20170414_13_52_03_Pro.jpg

went to village where the famed "little dragon buns" originated. The come out really hot and you bit a small hole on top an blow on it till its the right temperature. It's made of a fatty pork filling which makes the soup like liquid inside each one. We hit 3 different places and each had their unique recipe
WP_20170415_11_18_14_Pro.jpg

love me some grilled squid, almost as good as fresh octopus in Greece
WP_20170415_14_39_43_Pro.jpg

fish done Shanghainese style which tends to be on the sweet side compared to most Chinese food
WP_20170415_19_22_40_Pro.jpg

I could hot pot all day long, for those who don't know what that is, it's basically cook your own food at the table using you choice of seasonings, Great with a sessions beer
WP_20170416_13_51_16_Pro.jpg

alleyways are often a hidden treat for grilled kabobs and beer like this one
WP_20170416_22_51_58_Pro.jpg

but I just love a good old fashion bowl of noodles

Back in Japan and China again for summer holidays with the family. First spent a week in Tokyo with the kids, then met my wife in Shanghai. It was hotter than normal in Tokyo, but hot as balls as Joy would say in Shanghai

Commuting each morning on bus like a local is nice as each fare is only 2 yuan (6 yuan = $1). Despite the overpopulation of cars, the scooters and bikes still outnumber the four wheelers. Riding here is probably safer than NYC, the asshats here are the scooters.

My younger is taking a week long cooking class while we sightsee during day. Next week doing eastern cooking, this week western. Today is a cook off battle.

My older stayed behind with my brother to work on his apartment in the Nakagin Capsule building. It's pretty iconic for architects, which is why my brother bought a unit. Basically it's a half shipping container bolted to a main reinforced tower. The unit was cheap and needs a complete strip down renovation. A lot of work, but in prime real estate being in Ginza.
Screenshot_2017-07-21-11-26-54.png

A few units like this one has the original restored interior. These are like museum time capsules. Dig the stock r2r player. Amazing what you can fit into a 10x12 space. I bought over a Bosch mini tank hot water heater since they don't have them in Asia.

Owl cafes are so much more interesting than cat and dog varieties. They are so chill

Everyone in japan including adults are nuts over the Gotcha/Gotchapon balls. They are like those 25 cent vending machine toys, but they are more high end and collectable at $2-5 each. My kids spent most of their souvenir money here. This is one of the biggest located in Kyoto.
