Evidence of new tick-borne illness

transmission usually occurs when the tick is backing out, not when its pulled... as far as tick testing places, i have no idea. i wood google.
2 weeks ago had a tick in me the size of a pinhead freaked me out, went to doc started doxy and gave her the tick to get tested as it was too small to ID your doc should take care of tick testing luckily came back neg, stopped antibiotics

I would wait a couple of weeks and verify Lyme before putting your kid on Doxycycline (the preferred drug for Lyme). Doxy is nasty stuff, if you take it on an empty stomach you, will feel like you're being poisoned to death, then puke your guts out. They can also develop photosensitivity. The test for Lyme has gotten more reliable, and Lyme is one of the few bacteria that haven't gotten antibiotic resistant, so its easy to kill.
once you have lyme you have it for the rest of your life just stays dormant so testing the person who had it before will always show positive that's why the tick must be analysed to see if it carries lyme

Pft, doctor says take antibiotics don't question it. But make sure the steak you buy at wholefoods is antibiotic free because facebook. Sick cows taste better anyway.

Once you have Lyme you have it forever? Who told you this bullshit?

I don't think this is true. The antibodies stay in your system for a while, so you can test positive after it's gone, but antibiotics will completely get rid of Lyme.

I don't believe that is true. You will have the antibodies for the rest of your life but you can eradicate the bacteria. Also, if you have had the disease and have suffered permanent ill effects of it (like arthritis, organ damage, etc.) those effects may not go away even if you've eradicated the bacteria. So since you have the antibodies after exposure you may test positive for them for the rest of your life, even though you don't have the disease anymore. Can any doctors or medical scientists in the audience confirm this?

I guess everyone's body is different. I seem to tolerate antibiotics well. I've taken doxycycline with no problems. I just make sure to eat/drink a lot of yogurt, kefir, and other probiotic rich stuff before, during and after treatment so my digestive system stays protected.

Doc confirmed it was a deer tick. Wrote an Rx for Doxy. Her concern was how long the tick could have been attached. If she picked it up on Sunday, that could be up to 48 hours.

This notion that you have the Lyme infection forever is bullshit. And unless your Dr. is an infectious disease specialist, Rheumatologist, or some other relevant specialist, they probably don’t know shit about immunology beyond what they remember from class in medschool. During acute infection, your body produces predominantly IgA. After treatment, it’s a mix of IgM or IgG. They can tell the difference when they test you, so its not an issue.

well then i may be wrong but i was going by what my doctor and the infectious disease doctor s were telling me after i got done with the IV treatments and i was trying to get info as to what to do going forward if i gave erroneous info sorry bout that

Finally, I can join the discussion. I caught a tick on me last night. At 4 AM while sleeping, I felt the dreaded "tickling" on my right ear.
It woke me up and I felt his fleshy little body and caught him. I don't think I picked it up in the woods myself. I think my outdoor cat
brought it in and somehow it got on me. My cat does NOT go in my bed. The tick never got me, but it was close.

Those little f**kers love ears, man. My girlfriend is an elementary school teacher and noticed one IN a kid's ear not too long ago.

"Okay, now, let's go take a walk to the nurse's office."
"Why?"
"Well, uh, she wanted to see me and she said I could bring a buddy."
".....oh. Okay!"

Nurse handled it, kid didn't freak out, and parent was notified. I don't think anything came of it, thankfully (I'm sure I would have heard if there had).

Beginning of a tick bite? Found this on the bottom of my daughter's neck........not sure what it looks like prior to the bullseye.......thx
