Cycling Bloodsport

Keirin races have been around forever -- they have them at the Lehigh Velodrome all the time. It used to be one of the biggest sports in this country back at the turn of the 20th century. And it's just the nature of Keirin that people are going to get hurt. I've never seen racers wear pads, though.

Oh, and if you think this is cool, you should check out a Madison, which is a two person team race where one racer flings the other forward to start the next lap. It's increibly hard to follow because there will be like 20 teams on the track at one time and they're lapping one another and racers have different strategies for how many laps each will do in a row and stuff like that. Plus the typical Madison is like 100 or 200 laps.

we went to the Velodrome for the 1st time last summer - and loved it. we'll definitely be back again this season.

The Madison is my favorite -

Mandi and i joked that we should do that/enter...then we saw a crash and said "meh...that's ok". I also think our arms aren't long enough

I was expecting:

somehow combined with cycling

off topic but I've always wondered this...what is with the medical face masks?

Is that just a Japanese thing or do you see that in other Asian countries?

and, more importantly, WTF?
