i just shift the downshift the front and upshift the rear - because math.
In my experience, this is mentally harder. When you downshiftbthe front and up thevrear, you have multiple gear to dump before you bottom out. If you can mentally not do that, then gear inches wise it makes sense. But I am not that strong mentally and just dump away. In most cases, if I dump to the small from, “its” over.

If anyone's interested, I ended up taking out a link and adjusting the b-screw which appears to have sorted out the slippage. I suppose I really didn't size the chain properly to begin with, but we're all good now. HMP is now a lot more enjoyable on the dualie.
