Add google photos as a media type

Google is retiring picasa web albums in favor of google photos. Picasa allows you to get a direct jpeg link that you can place in a post as a photo. Google photos doesn't let you get to the jpeg link, you can only get this sort of address. Can this be added as a media type?

The problem is that your url actually turns to this, which isn't really mappable:

Google internally maps that ID to something else. So it's not a straight mapping you can do. I would imagine it won't be long before someone writes something for it though.

Oops I broke the first pic. Maybe I just need to find a better image host. Google is quite frustrating in the way they migrate between products. They introduce a replacement that had 50% functionality of the original, but it looks cool so who cares. Bits of the remaining 50% trickle out slowly over a few years or are just abandoned. How long did it take to get "my maps" back in the the google maps app?

BTW @rlb - why not just direct upload pics to the site from your phone. Seems easier than phone->google->site.

I do sometimes, but I like to keep most of my data consolidated where I can. Almost all pictures that I share to a forum are in 1 or 2 picasa albums managed under my google login vs. spread out over several forums under several logins.
