Achilles tendon issue.

Anyone ever have random achilles problems? Mine started about a month ago. No obvious injury and running doesn't seem to sggrivate it. Noticed it AFTER a ride and now I notice it during and after almost every ride. It's slightly tender directly behind the ankle and feels slightly inflamed. I've been trying to stretch it out but don't wNt to injure it worse. Anyone ever experience this and if so what did you do?

So did I. Best exercise/stretch is to stand on the edge of stairs, lower to a stretch, hold 10 seconds, slowly raise as high as you can, then repeat 10 times. I do it regularly and haven't had Achilles issues in years

May I suggest spending some time off the single speed and riding some gears to take it easy? Especially in Hartshorne.

Put some arches in your shoes. My Sports Dr b Ave me some gel inserts for my heals and that helped.

Do not do as Rick suggested.thats a calf building exercise that can be very bad for you achillies if it is barking..
Tendons are not muscles they are strong enough to hang a pick up truck so imagine the repeated abuse it takes to tear one. Work the muscles upstream and downstream to ease the tension. Rollers, lacrosse balls work any area that feels notted a few good minutes. Roll the palm of your foot on a golf ball.. Be very careful going down steps..Look up a guy named Kelly Starret. He has lots of videos on self massage.

Well that's what a sports doc prescribed when I had achilles issues. Again, best advice here is see a doc and listen to him/her, not clowns on the internet (including me!)

Trying to stretch and ice it. I have the fitted dr scholls in my boots at work. I tend to feel it more after riding when i wear the work boots and it calms down after when in my normL shoes. I have lifts in that side as well as my leg is shorter. Guess i'll have to fat bike it a bit.

take it easy for a few weeks, no running or other high impact stuff
had a minor tear 10 years ago with had me in a boot for 6 weeks then no sports for another 6, not saying that's the issue, tendons and ligaments are like old rubber bands when you start to age

Resurrecting this thread. I have had Achilles tendonitis issues for about 2 weeks now. After spending countless hours researching I found the link below to contain the best method to recovery. It highlights the main points of the alfredson study. basically 3x15 eccentric heel drops for 12 weeks. I will follow up when I finish the recovery period.

Yep, that's pretty much it. I've got a partially ossified tendon in my left foot, so, you know, personal experience.

Best not to let it get to that point if you can nip it in the bud with stretching/resting.

SS/clipless pedals aggravated it. Gears/flats/proper insoles helped. Mine just happened to be high arches and metatarsal pads.

What doctor did you go to?

Mmm, several years ago, but it was the Orthopedic Sports Medicine group (Princeton, Red Bank, etc...). Same group I went to for my shoulder and arm. I honestly can't recall the doctor, other than the diagnoses being straight forward and really nothing to be done but exercise the area and keep it from getting worse.

I also hurt the tendon that supports my arch. It runs along the inside of your ankle. How are you feeling now? How many weeks did it take for you to fully recover?
