Day 8 was a Round Valley kinda day.
Took my bud Raf back to visit the trails we rode 20 years ago.
Legs were feeling strong today, and made most of the climbs without an issue.
A little slick on the cush side, but it doesn't get any direct sunlight, so.....

a little over 2 hours, a little over 12 miles...

Day 8

Woke up in Bromont, Quebec today. The mountain is a ski hill in the winter and DH park in the summer. But it absolutely poured in the morning and we decided to just do an outer gravel loop to get some time in today. In the lot at the base of the mountain, we met a local who told us to go up & down Divine. The person who named this trail is a charter member of the Ironic TRail Naming Club, as the climb up was anything but divine. So it goes.

July Challenge Day 8: In between the downpour we climbed straight up BRO MOUNTAIN

1:05:05
5.9 miles

Overall

Days: 8
Rides: 10
Time: 24:44 (8:44 over goal)

Dipped into the Overage Bucket today. Will likely do the same tomorrow.

At nearly the farthest point from home, there was a loud crack, which turned out to be one of the steel bolts that attaches the carbon seat post cap getting sheared off. Now I have to see about drilling out the broken bolt. In the meantime, i have a shorter seat post cap that i can use for my fat ass.

Incredibly profound yet fantastically flawed
Day 8 - A buddy of mine was visiting his parents in Jackson and wanted to take a trip to Carton Brewing (he's a big 077XX and Boat fan.) So I told him I'd meet him at Kane first after riding in Allaire. Felt like crap during my ride and Allaire was a bit too sandy this morning so I was sliding all over the place, but all in all a pretty good day.

Loamy, sandy Allaire ...

I'm not as big an IPA fan as my buddy is, so at Kane I went with the Cloud Cover (and followed up with a Raspberry Cloud Cover) ...

A wall of cans ...

Unless you are really looking for it, you'd never know this is a brewery with as much notoriety as Carton ... the only sign is that little one on the door!

Day 9

The whirlwind tour of the world continues. This morning I woke up in Montreal and jumped out around 7:00 for a quick hour in the park across the street from where we stayed. As I write this D is out doing the same thing with Zac, who is riding a bike way too big. But it's a closed loop and all they have to worry about is people with errant dogs and mirrors glued all over them. The park loop is car & bus-free. Today was just a workman-like clock punching effort. Just get it done, get a shower, and get ready to go. Well, I'll drink 9-43 espressos in there too I imagine.

We head home today but that won't last. Tomorrow I need to be in Delaware for an 8:30am workshop. I'll be down there for 3 days. The bright side? I'll be 10 minutes away from White Clay.

July Challenge Day 9: You spin me right round baby right round like a record baby right round round round

Days: 9

I find it kindof strange that with no climbing, and sub 15mph average, your estimated avg wattage is close to 200.. Do you have your weight in strava
as 300lbs?

Of all the things that could have made a "loud crack", that's a pretty favorable choice.

See yesterday's ride. Straight up the mountain, 1100 feet in ~2 miles, and the average power is 107w. I can't imagine why you would put any credence in any estimated number Strava tells you ever again. I put out 107 watts when I crap.

i kinda get that - probably averaged well over 200 on the way up, and zeroish on the way down - there isn't that much of a time difference.
or maybe gravity is in metric up there..

speaking of trusting strava - one of the leaders of the climbing challenge, rides whistler every day. So yeah, no bueno.

Yes although the seat post cap kept slipping down as I rode home. I just didn't want to over tighten the single bolt and crush the carbon seat mast part of the frame. At least it could bottom out so there was a point at which it stopped slipping.

Although the crack sounded like it came from the saddle itself, i initially checked the rear spokes and tire figuring it was related to the rear wheel. That rear tire is on borrowed time so I expected to see it ruptured.
