Ahhhhhhhhh! Back in the state park today! Great ride for the 4th of July.
Not a soul in the park on the trails.

This was the forest fire area last year along Red Dot trail.

Then I rode up to the beach area and there were hundreds of people partying.
Here are some guys rearranging the parks grill to suit their needs. They pulled it out of the ground, cement and all.

Took the MTB over to Stephens to see if there was any closure notices. Other than the army/wall of mosquitos when I entered the misty forest, there were no notices or anything at 3 different access points for Stephens. One was a parking lot, although not the one that has the Ranger station. It was a very quiet rainforest this afternoon.

Day 4

Today we started our week at Kingdom Trails with the team. I pushed a little bit to get out early because I wanted to eat as much of the cake as I could today, plus I don't know what the next few days have in store. Today was a super fun day, makes me really appreciate what they have up here. This place is really amazing, just miles and miles of awesome trails.

I kept riding until I was done riding. Then I went back to the house to hang out with some awesome people.

July Challenge Day 4: The intention was to go directly to Pines but we took an extremely indirect route to get there

36.5 miles

Overall

Days: 4
Rides: 4
Time: 10:33 (2:33 above pace, woo hoo!)

1:25 of riding time in Penneypack Park (NE Philly)... and over an hour of clearing trees and branches from recent storms. Then my riding buddy was running short of time and we had to take the paved path back to the cars. But it was a good day - that boy is a master with a machete... I sawed a couple of branches but mostly stayed out of his way and pulled away what he had chopped off.

Then I added some bonus time riding to the car shop and back after dropping off the new(ish) car for state inspection.

I rode the Laurel trail today and it is a challenging climb for me.
As I was huffing and puffing I decided to check my heart rate on my watch,
so I pressed the button and saw 159, I continued climbing, looked again and
saw 189! Crap! I quit to take a break, when I realized I pressed the wrong button
and was looking at calories instead. Dumb ass! Ha.

Here are my vulture friends soaking up the morning sun.

Day 5

I had a conference call at 10:30 this morning so I got out at 7:00 with Brian/Utah/Woody and banged out almost 3 hours in 3 hours, which is saying something as a lot of time here you ride-stop-talk and repeat for a bunch of hours. It was good to get a chance to talk to Woody a little bit this morning before he took off to see a mutual friend outside of Boston. I've known Woody for almost 27 years now, and I feel like we never get a chance to catch up anymore.

July Challenge Day 5: In before the conference calls ruin the day

2:53:04
23.6 miles

In addition to the 10:30 call I had a 2:00 but after this first call I pulled the "F this I am on vacation" rip cord and went back out for a second ride with mostly D and Jim, but also a little with Dan/Ryan/Steve. Got some more of the good stuff before rolling it up on the day.

July Challenge Day 5, part 2: At which point my bike starts to disintegrate and things rattle around inside

2:21:06
19.2 miles

Total for the day was 5:14:10 and 42.8 miles.

Overall

Days: 5
Rides: 6
Time: 15:47 (5:47 ahead of pace)

Incredibly profound yet fantastically flawed
Day 5 - A little road ride ... the little dick punch climb in the middle of the ride was made all the worse by some giggling moron in a Civic who turned right into me as I was crossing an intersection. Just avoided getting hit as she looked right at me, laughed and shrugged. Since I was already burning from the climb, that kind of took the wind out of me. Made me remember why I rarely choose the road. Anyway, here are some horses ...

Yesterday was one of those strange days where everything you plan actually happens the way you (more or less) hoped it would. Some dirt riding... and then a short road ride to pick up my car from the shop. While the dirt ride got cut short by a flat, I was able to make up the time with the ride to the shop (along with a detour as I went looking for an old machine shop I used to know of):

This morning was a real "3131 ride" where I get up at O-dark early to get an hour in before work. I went to bed last night figuring it would be a rain-ride, but I got lucky and finished well before the rain arrived. I have plans for after work tomorrow, to 7/31 will likely be similar, although I hope to roll out closer to 4AM than today, A coffee-holder on the bike would be very welcome...:
