10 spots remain for 1st Annl NJ Bike Summit - 27 Feb

http://www.njbikesummit.org/

While the final agenda for the summit is yet to be released it has been announced that a major theme of the Summit will be “Complete Streets”. With the recent adoption of a “Complete Streets” policy by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the NJBC has made it a priority to educate and empower cyclists on this important concept.

Attendees of the Summit will participate in a Complete Streets seminar and work session presented by Mike Dannemiller and Laura Torchio, both planning engineers with RBA group, an engineering and planning firm that does a significant amount of work for the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Summit attendees are encouraged to find a specific “problem area” within their own communities for inclusion in the workshop.

Once the concepts of complete streets have been presented, breakout groups will meet to discuss the specific problems and possible solutions. The objective will be to have attendees leave the Summit armed with tools and information to effect change in their own locale.

Don't know what Complete Streets is? Learn more about it here. To learn more about Complete Streets on a national level, please visit the National Complete Streets website.

More on the NJ Bicycle Summit agenda to follow - stay tuned...

You can follow the progress of the summit planning several ways: the NJ Bicycle Summit Website, through Tweets on Twitter or through our free e-newsletter (subscribe on the website home page).

We hope to see you in February at New Jersey’s first bicycle summit, and hope that we can count on your support.

Need JORBA and Mountain Biking Community at Summit

Please consider joining us at the NJ Bike Summit. The lineup of speakers is quite impressive, including:
  • Keynote Speaker - Andy Clarke (Exec Director - League of American Bicyclists)
  • Tim Blumenthal (Executive Director - Bikes Belong)
  • Jeff Miller (President/CEO - Alliance for Biking and Walking)
  • L. Grace Spencer - Assemblywoman, New Jersey (and sponsor of bill requiring 3-feet between motorists and cyclists)
  • Sheree Davis of the New Jersey Department of Transportation

The cycling community in NJ stands to benefit greatly from the work of the NJ Bicycle Coalition. Please consider joining the coalition, and attending the Summit. If interested, kindly let me know. If the weather cooperates I hope to bike to the Summit (in Denville)... join me.

Peace,
BB
