Tried to get back into the groove, dodge rain drops and then #tubelessfail

did some more exploring in the neighborhood today (dismal swamp, rutgers eco (abbreviated), johnson park, donaldson park, thomas edison park, raritan center, greenway)...

these tracks from the eastern end of the middlesex greenway look like they will take you all the way to raritan center...going to give that a shot at some point...maybe tomorrow...this rain is relentless...

Those tracks are how I get to the beach. It turns into some deep brush for a bit and then dumps out in Perth Amboy near the Rt35 Bridge.

ah, right...that makes sense...i've taken the tracks from the eastern end of the middlesex greenway, but stopped just on the east side of the GSP...next time, i'll pack a kaleidopete-style pruning saw on my bike and clear some of that brush!

Slacked off this week a little, tho more related to driving to 2 mtb rides than anything else.

6 days riding, 1 day running. Better balance of rides - 3 road, 3 mtb.

12 hrs, 29 min - 172 miles

Started the week with mtb ride at the Mabry Carlton preserve - rode to an old cowboy camp and then to Myakka River State Park, a huge wilderness area:

Then the highlight of the week, Alafia River State Park - a top 3 mtb destination in FL. Well worth the drive (about 80 miles) - I posted elsewhere but it's a shame NJ doesn't have biking only dedicated trails (other than private downhill parks like Mountain Creek). These are built and maintained fully by volunteer groups, even tho the trails are in state parks. The black diamond trails were challenging but fun, the roller coaster trail I could ride all day. Double black diamond was above my paygrade however, scary drops and jumps

Balm Boyette Scrub preserve is close to this and has similar phosphate mine trails, will hit it next week.

Then the local singletrack today - tight, twisty, rooty trails, with the occasional trail feature and bridges. In fact I rode a new trail, came around a fast blind turn and boom, there's a bridge. Of course I flew off it - luckily the drop (about 5 ft) landed in a muddy drainage area. A few scrapes and bruises but otherwise ok.

Then the usual road rides (note the no longer matchy water bottles - lost one of the green ones at Alafia):

It's slightly warm out and the tide is out. So I took the fat boy on the beach from union beach to keyport and back. Close to 90 mins. Stupid phone said 60,000 ft elevation change. Took an artsy picture. Tried to go behind iff but sank in a tributary. I'll leave that for a warmer day.
Another bouy

Perfect day out on the trails, 30° at 7 AM and all is frozen. I rode the Laurel trail and Sitting Bear.
Some spots has 3 inches of running water for over 100 feet, but the base was stone and gravel.
Other spots were nicely frozen mud making for perfect riding.
Sitting Bear trail, nice and dry

Fire road, icy

Got a little raritan power canal/duke island/duke farms ride in today. Some of it exploring off the regular path.
Found access that I hadn't seen before (which can happen on a mtb doing sub-road-bike-speed)
The low lying fields were heavily grass covered. Even if they were a bit wet, there wasn't any sinking.

Oh, and the unicorn came out today.
