Evidence of new tick-borne illness

@Mountain Bike Mike please travel North and see a different doctor. If he's not sharing an office with Elmer's lube and tire shop then you've gone north enough. It's not lyme. It's certainly not the plural of it either.
Don't take the doxy, it's horrible for you.

Ok - I'll shedule an appt with the dr I went to a year ago who schooled me on it. He's the one that told me that a tick needs to bite / engorge / vomit for up to 24 hours before causing infection

I definitely don't want take it if I don't need to

Dr confirmed... lymes rash... opted for the three week antibiotic and will get a blood test in a month... View attachment 54684
I believe it's a good call going on antibiotics for several weeks. It's better to be safe than sorry. And this whole thing about antibiotics being "horrible" for you is nonsense. Certainly taking them for months and years is crazy but a few weeks is fine. Make sure you eat as little yeast based food as possible and get yourself some strong probiotics to keep your gut in check. Good luck!

Personally I would get blood test confirmation that I had no tick-borne disease asap but you're right, untreated Lyme disease would be disastrous, antibiotics are safe and effective.

The CDC has done nothing to advance the treatment of Lyme Disease. They have actually done more harm than good with their stance on the treatment of Lyme.

There is no scientific evidence that the bacteria persists after initial treatment of antibiotics. Actually, Borrelia is killed pretty easily by antibiotics, and is one of the few bacteria to have not developed resistance (it’s more fun cousin Syphilis is another). Some people do get chronic arthritis, but this an auto immune condition that his brought on by the initial infection and subsequent treatment. There’s an even more rare condition where the bacteria gets into your CNS. The problem is that chronic Lyme has become a catch-all for every condition that manifests itself after the initial infection. Going onto IV antibiotics to kill an organism that isn’t even there is doing nothing but killing your liver and kidneys. And most doctors suck, the extent of their microbiology training was whatever class they took in med school and what their hypochondriac internet-surfing patients come in with. Find an actual infectious disease specialist, with professional endorsements and some peer-reviewed papers under his/her belt.

I haven't officially been diagnosed via bloodtest, but based on my feelings and discussions with doctor I picked up lymes a week and half ago.

I raced the D&Q Summer Sizzler July 9th, found a wood tick on me after my early morning warmup. While waiting for the post race award ceremony I found a deer tick crawling around on me. After awards I decided to venture down south to New Jersey Motorsports Park to visit some friends doing a motorcycle track day. Finally got home around 1030pm, hop in the shower. Looking at myself in the mirror I see a tiny tiny little black spec on my waistline. Spec of dirt? I rub my finger on it, doesn't move. I look closer, shit, is that a deer tick? Yep. I grab some tweezers and yank the sucker out. As soon as a pull him, stops moving. Either crushed him with tweezers or decapitated him. Crap.

Wake up the next morning Monday 7/10, feeling pretty tired and out of it, which is usual after a race. Do a easy recovery ride that day. No bulls eye rash or anything, feeling like I escaped. Go to bed.

Around 2 to 3am Tuesday Morning 7/11, I wake up in the middle of the night, area around tick bite has shooting pain, itchy. Uh oh. Feel super fatigued all day, I try to do a road ride, only good for 45 min. Go to gym to do a core workout, I feel like taking a nap on the mat. Area around bite is tender, no bulls eye rash.

Wed to Thurs, still pretty tired. Neck is feeling pretty sore. Area around bite is still tender. Have a headache Thursday. I do upper body workout, no energy. Having crazy dreams at night. Friday I see doctor and get prescribed 100mg doxycycline. I was planning to race this past weekend and visit family in VT but bail, not feeling it.

Started the cycle this past Saturday, felt super tired all day, no energy. Slept 11 hours Sat night. Area around bite feels all tingly after antibiotics, which is most likely all the bacteria running like hell. Sunday I feel a little better, decide to do a little yardwork. This past Monday and Tuesday have been improvements. Knee joints and legs are super sore, feels like I've been post race for a week and a half. Heart Rate was crazy low Tuesday morning, 42 beats per minute! Usually is low 50's. I'm feeling like antibiotics are working, gradual improvements each day, but still 60 - 70% getting better each day.

hope your recovery goes well

Yep, that's what I do also. I used to buy the Sawyer stuff, but it's really expensive when you consider most of the bottle is water. Although, it's a good idea to read some reviews and check the other ingredients, as some of the concentrates have foul-smelling carriers. The one I use right now (and which seems to be a popular choice) is Permethrin SFR, which comes as 36.8% Permethrin. It is a bit odoriferous when wet, but the odor goes away once dry.

So, my clothes get treated with Permethrin every few washes, and then in addition, I use Picaridin on my skin as an alternative to DEET.

I'm one of those folks who ticks don't seem to care for. I'd very rarely find any on me. However, all it takes is one. Three or four days after returning home from a camping trip a few years ago, I found one hiding in an inconspicuous location. A little while later, the telltale bulls-eye rash developed. The first blood test for Lyme (at approximately 2 weeks) came back negative, but the next one (at approximately one month) came back positive.

I was just doing some research on this and anecdotal evidence (and I tend to believe them) seems to point to the 36.8 version not sticking very well to clothing because it was formulated to stick to vegetation and such. One guy said using the Sawyer product, he has pulled 300 dead ticks off his socks. Using the diluted 36.8 version, he only pulled a dozen or so. Martin's 10% may be a better way to go.

Just a heads up, the nymph deer tick is still out there
Pulled this little guy off me on Sunday...tested negative

I had Lyme disease twice.
I now wear knee socks riding in the woods, sprayed with permethrcin. I have a complete sprayed outfit I wear walking in the woods. I use the lemon eucalyptus oil spray for skin and mountain bike clothes.

suckers can cause skin infection too

Similar symptoms when i had it a couple years ago. I got mine mind-winter though. January. Never saw a rash, but got the flu like symptoms. They went away after a day, then a week or so later, started getting nasty muscle spasms in my neck. Then the heart palpitations started. They got REALLY bad while I was in AZ. Pretty scary actually. Came home for more dr visits. Over the next 6 weeks, I wound up w/ a couple more bouts of 24-hour flu symptoms. Return for bloodwork and luckily the dr tested for lymes. Confirmed. Doxy for 3 weeks, but didn't feel better until probably day 15. Never had joint pain luckily.

That's odd. Same thing here, but I regretfully sprayed the tick with a repellant after I determined that pulling it out in one piece was not possible. It was only attached for maybe four hours, but it was stuck. Turns out that spraying it will make a live tick throw up everything in it's second stomach, which are all the diseases. I was really tired that same day and then had the same symptoms as you. However I did get the single doxy dose the same day. Only thing different was that my heart would beat rapidly and then basically stop for a few beats which would cause me to lose my breath. But now apparently I might have sjorgrens syndrome so I don't know anymore. My eyes have trouble with light now and actually my vision got worse after each time the eye doctor shined the light in my eyes so I stopped going. Auto immune stuff sucks.
