How was it?

Deerfield Mass. is where the ride starts, and has a historic section of town. That's where all the event stuff is kept. Several local residents and myself setup the ride on Thursday. I later jumped on the local ride from Bicycles Unlimited and we hit a 40 mile loop with no hills. Friday it rained so hard I showered with soap under the sky then went on a 40 mile ride around parts of the planned course. Saturday comes and that was ride day. There were several course options, the one I picked is the long Mystery ride. The cue sheets and gpx files were not released until the prior night. Unlike the other courses where prep can happen, I was on my own. My tech never fails, just after loading the course file my garmin froze and needed a factory reset. I tried to get started around 6:45 and didn't leave until after 7:00. I had had my bicycle setup with one feed bag on my handlebar from yanco bags, 2 cages, and a saddle bag with the essentials. My jersey pockets were full of Honey Stinger gel, waffles, and blueberry bars. God and Famous launched new bidons and I was stoked for riding with 2 cans of off and a bottle of benadryl. I've been trying Infinit nutrition after a referral from Turin Bicycle Shop in Chicago. Their drink mix is blended to what our body desires, from an over the phone consultation. So with that, I had my Benadryl bottle filled with that magic dust, and the off was my water carrier. At mile 17 I discovered an empty drink, and a missing off bottle. Stopped into a small town and scored a cold water (so gross during a ride) and gatoraid because those bottle should fit a normal cage. Well 5mi later that gatoraid was missing and I was rolling into a rest stop. Recycled a liter water bottle and that stayed for the remainder of the ride. I was drinking a about 22oz per hour, doing 3 pills of sport legs every 2 hours, and chowing on Honey treats to get my mind off the best parts... The loose stone climbs on dirt roads that were forest roads. Several of these road had signs that said road closed, no longer maintained but these signs looked old. There was some gnar sections for even a mountain bike ride, though not much was very challenging. The maintained dirt roads were soggy in the morning from the day befores' rain. The views were very nice, and the leaves are shifting from green to red. The weather was cool and dry all day long. I held an average of 11mph on 9k feet of climbing. For the wondering last year I did the 180k and it had 12,000 ft in climbing. Anyway this entire ride is a fundraiser for the Franklin Land Trust, which conserves land in Franklin County Mass. (/ kinda like open space or farmland preservation) Basically making sure the squirrels don't have to live on tennis courts. 1,500 riders registered. The FLT raises about 100k for their organization. Next gravel grinder is the DeTour De Connecticut in two weeks.
