The JORBA-Wharton 2015/2016 Season Night Rides and Trail work Schedule (and WSF Batsto area MTB Trail map) is now linked on the JORBA-Wharton page... http://www.jorba.org/wharton

Our first scheduled trail work day is National Public Lands Day, Saturday September 26 2015. Current plan for the day calls for trail tread repair on the first mile, clearing nicks, removing silt, and firming up the trail where it needs it. Meet at 9:00 in the Batsto Visitor Center parking lot near the trailhead. Tools, work gloves and water provided. Bring your favorite work shoes, a sense of humor, and maybe a snack. We'll be back in the lot before 12:30.

Regarding the damage from summer's June wind storm, again... much thanks to Gerry, Kevin, Bill, Jim, Rick, Michael and JohnE for working hard in the July heat/humidity to clear over 70 blowdowns! Buy these guys a beer the next time you see them!

The first Jersey Devil Night Ride of the season is Saturday October 24 2015. Can't wait for the good times.

Thanks for the work guys, hats off to you!
Thanks!
Much thanks to Rick, John and Kevin for coming out on the 29th and helping to brush back that overgrown scrub oak section south of Mount. A crew of us will be working this Sunday on the east side removing some new blowdowns. If you see us, stop and say hello.

Saturday the 26th is National Public Lands Day. All are invited. If you have never worked on a trail crew before, this will be a fun introduction to trail work.

The fair draws a lot of people, and generates a lot of traffic with overflow parking in both fields.

I will be there. With bells on. Ready to fill your truck with wet dirt. And some rocks.
I was wondering how wet it was going to be. I was in central NJ all day, and they started to get pounded with rain a couple hours ago. Didn't look to be forecast as long down here.

The wet soil will make our early morning work a little easier.
The trails should be prime to ride by late morning.

3 people moved lots of dirt.....here are pics of the chewed up, sandy turn that was the first project.

Before. Well, just after scraping sand out and dumping one load of dirt.

After, going from just uphill and out. Many new drains and dirt.

We have the chance to help with some trail maintenance in the next town over on Saturday.
It will likely be a long day of work. We're cancelling the night ride. Apologies if you were planning on riding. Thanks.

The current TWC forecast for the 11/28/15 night ride looks questionable. Rain cancells. Will post more as the day gets near.

Other then that, all the usual. Meet near the trailhead. Wheels out at 6:00 pm, or maybe 6:15. Casual conversational pace around the inner loops. Helmet and light required.
The WSF staff allows JORBA members and other WSF trail volunteers to meet after dark in the Batsto Visitor Center parking lot for this ride. Please do not park in this lot after hours w/o prior permission. You will be visited by the Park Police.

The Wharton Forest staff will be hosting mtb beginner paced morning rides starting at 11:00 am on 12/6/15, 1/1/16 and 5/7/16. Check the Parks & Forests events calendar or the flyer posted on this site for more information.

The first scheduled trail work day of 2016 is this Saturday 3/12/16.
The current plan is to ride the inner trails w/ saws, clippers, axe. Riding, stopping, riding, fixing this winters storm damage. Removing the blowdowns and clipping back the face slappers. Bring your bike, helmet, hydration, sense of humor, and meet in the Batsto parking lot at 9:00. We'll be back before 12:30. All are invited. Thanks!
