I am in search for a steel frame to build up for commuting . sized 52-54

bling much appreciated, yet not necessary.
 
Wraith fabrication Paycheck rules as a CX race frame, sadly no eyelets or mounting points for commuting amenities such as racks and fenders.

All new options, all steel. If you're shopping used any of these are valid second hand. These frames are all pretty beefy and hold up to abuse well.
 
do you want gears or are you going single speed?

i know it's unpopular to not hit up your LBS, but the single speed i ride i paid $200 complete. i've done a century on it even. bought it online. they discontinued the 'specific' one i ride (scattante americano) but i'm sure they are all essentially the same just with different paint schemes. i gotta say i am really really really happy with what i ride. especially for the price. i wood imagine for a commuter it could be good.

this is really similar to what i got, except this one is even fancier with bottle cage bosses. i have the same brake set up and errythang.

ebay, localshops sell frame only on this bike too. i scored mine on ebay for $275 or so, it was well used but fits in perfectly with the condition of my other bikes :)
 
I saw a nature boy ️️complete on Craigslist a few weeks back for 300... Should of jumped
 
you can run a gear setup a nature boy, it's not as clean looking buy it gets the job done. thats what i plan on doing :)
 
Masi makes good commuters. I love sspeeding as a commuting bike. Actually for all riding. Simply and low maintenance to streamline your commutting.
 
imo nothing beats steel, if you can afford high end tubing like 853 or 953 for example then you are so money. Lower grade tubing is great as well but a bit more heavier.
 
I like @clarkenstein suggestion for you the best. Not that everyone else's is bad - for you, it's cheap, its tested and recommended and its a SS. Since most of your commute is flat aside from falling out of and climbing back into your nest, a SS would really bring the cost down and streamline the bike like @The Kalmyk said. Additionally, when you're battling those tradewinds, that SS will give you a great workout and you'll build great strength..

I'm in for @clarkenstein suggestion.

However, the Macho is really nice..... for me :)

I've thought about getting one to take into the city but I really need to stop being lazy and build up one of the 70s, 80s frames I have sitting in the garage. I used to have an old Raleigh I set up as fixed for commuting, but decided it was way to small for me and took it apart thinking I would swap out the frame. That project hasn't happened in like 3 years. But this year, I promise!

Funny you say that... I have waiting for me in my garage an 82 Schwin Super La Tour - Was my fathers - I had plans on building it as a steelie retro SS. I haven't made time to ef with it. It looked like the frame may be bent but I won't know until I pull it apart.
