    Hartshorne Trail maintenance info

Many thanks, folks! Was noticing the improvements on the climb up today, and ran into Iggy (not literally :) ) near the top [presumably finishing up by then, since it was already after noon.] Awesome work!

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

The raspberries at Hartshorne are ripe :) Big tree down on Laurel Ridge. Not dangerous, but it's a dismount and toss your bike over one. The heat seems to be keeping the weekend crowds down. Encountered only a few other bikers & hikers yesterday afternoon; Rocky Point lot was only half full...

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

It's funny, I've mentioned Harts-horne in conversations and had people say, "oh, you mean Hart-shorne?" Umm, no, I meant Harts-horne. :) I remember noticing that most of the news reporters mispronounced it in their stories on that Apple Watch doofus. I even corrected the Wikipedia page, where...

    Lyme Disease Thread

Yeah, having had Lyme disease a few years ago, I'll be first in line for the VLA15 vaccine if/when it becomes available :) Complaints of adverse reactions and a class action lawsuit gave LYMErix a lot of bad press questioning its safety, likely leading to the low demand. The FDA had done a...

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

I wish I was motivated to do that, but I'm not a morning person. I need to ease in to the day. 🥱 I usually start work around 7:00 - 7:30 anyway, so I'd have to be there really early. Not just this week, but in general. Probably still from more people working from home and not having to waste...

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

Yeah, I was at Hartshorne Tuesday evening as well (but as mentioned earlier, rode there so parking wasn't an issue.) Weekday evenings used to be relatively quiet, but not anymore.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

Heh heh... I ride there from home, which is a 14 mile round trip in itself, so if I have enough time and motivation to do more than a one-way trip through Huber (although that still results in some repeated sections to cover everything), I'd rather go to Hartshorne :)

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

New tree down at Huber. It's small and easy to ride/hop over, but if you're riding Many Log Run counter-clockwise, it can be a bit of a surprise, as you've just gone down the hill and are negotiating the sand at the bottom as the trail turns left.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

Great to see the beginning (or end, depending on which direction you prefer to ride it) of Rocky Point open again. Nice job on the reroute; thanks to all those involved! Overall conditions are really good - the fun meter was reading just about as high as it could go today.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

Yes, indeed, beautiful conditions at Huber today! Didn’t encounter any wetness at all.

Do you write grocery lists on your phone or with a pen and paper?

I do the same, but with junk mail envelopes. Grocery list is written on the outside, coupons go in the envelope.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

I’ve always thought that part of the fun at Hartshorne is that as soon as you think you‘ve figured out the best line up a climb or down a decent, there will be a heavy rain and you’ll have to figure it out all over again :)

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

Not anymore... the root has been removed. That spot just kept getting more and more washed out with every heavy rain.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

All of the other fallen trees/branches (even from before the storm) have also been removed as well, with the exception being the stacked one at the other end of Many Log Run.

    Hartshorne/Huber Conditions

I didn't venture over to Hartshorne, but the major blockages at Huber have been removed. The trails are in rough shape in a few areas, though, due to all the rain.
