Whelp, I made it 31 days.
Did my first pre-work ride today and enjoyed it more than i thought i would, except for the whole getting up part.

day 30 - Saw the Hilltop Cycles Vans leaving the Bedminster ride, is that an every Monday thing? May have to get in on that.

Day 29 - Rode Allaire with Brother and Friend - Getting better at turning in the sand.
Day 28 - Rode around looking at the balloons!
20180728_191613.jpg

Day 27 - 6MR - loving that new super speedy section by the jacques lot.
Day 26 - Chimney rock to check out that new workstation. Really neat.

1. I need more shorts that are on the tighter side, i ended up wearing the same shorts for at least half this challenge. (many different chamois)
2. I find it amazing that I started this challenge barely knowing the local paths. Now at the end, I know how to get to places that seemed so far away, I have loops for whatever mood i'm in or time of day.
3. I should have looked at my diet more closely, although i'm pretty happy with 8 lbs down.

Enjoy your last ride if you haven't had it yet and congrats.

Day 31 - Nassau - first time here and a fitting way to end this event meant to get folks out on their bikes more and explore. There were two separate large trees down across the trails that will need chain saws. On one, I cleared off all the small branches to make it easier to get over in the meantime.

Over the course of the month I managed to get to 19 different areas, but the rains meant more days on the road then I planned. Congrats to all those that finished or started!

Totals: 50:43, 331 miles, 34 rides for the contest. Places I rode included:

  1. Patriots path
  2. LewMo
  3. Tranquility
  4. Sterling
  5. Tourne
  6. Madison power lines
  7. Mahlon
  8. Waterloo
  9. Allaire
  10. Stephens
  11. Dickerson Mine
  12. Kittatinny
  13. Minnewaska
  14. CR
  15. Ringwood
  16. Hartshorne/Huber
  17. High mountain
  18. Deer Park
  19. Nassau
In addition, I aquired a Tern GSD e-cargo bike halfway through the month, and I rode an additional 18 hours, 160 miles during 16 car-replacement rides (not counted toward contest) in July.

We lost the keys for the van during last night's ride and had to go out and get it this morning.

31/31 was nothing special as it was my usual after work loop at Hartshorne. I actually felt pretty fresh so towards the end I figured I give it some above average effort and PR'd a nasty climb.

I learned a lot from this challenge.

1. It's not really that unrealistic to find an hour per day.
2. I have a newfound respect for "roadies." I don't own a road bike but ended up doing several "road" rides on my hardtail during the course of this challenge. It's not as easy or as boring as I previously thought.
3. I learned to open up my eyes and enjoy my surroundings. There is way more to riding a bike than burning calories, or getting a PR, or whatever tends to grab my focus. One of the best parts of cycling is the experience.
4. Places are not as far away as I thought they were.

Day 31/31 aaannnd DONE!

Only had time for a local ride but I got a little Divergent to find my roots.
32 days consecutively. Will try to keep the streak going.
It's been a great month of riding. I learned a lot. Mostly useless information. But I still learned.

Stick a spork in it, it's done.

As always, thanks @jdog for giving us a reason to get out there more than we would. In the rain, before work, after work, whenever, as long as we did it.

And good work to all who threw their hat in the ring and made a go of it, especially those that made it through.

Great participation this year, and lots of activity on this thread helping to keep us all motivated.
Nice job all!

My numbers weren't anything to brag about this year, but did rack up 33 days straight. And all in clean chamoises! Laundry game is on point.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to have a beer and take the next few days off. Maybe.

July 31 - The end. And I'm now 4/5 states away in Portsmouth NH. I left home at about 1 PM yesterday, taking the "CT bypass route" up te Thruway and across the Mass TP, getting here a bit before 8. Hitting the Beach Plum for a lobster roll before checking into the hotel.

Then i go into work today, sitting in a kick-off meeting for 6+ hrs where we talked about my scope for about 15 minutes and I spoke for maybe 30 seconds. I get back the hotel around 5 and I can finally get ready to ride.

If there is one thing that is really cool about Portsmouth it is just how many cyclists you see. They are everywhere here. I easily saw over 20 during my relatively short ride. Anyway, enough blabbing... On to pictures.

This bridge was still under construction when I was here back in 2016.

Anchored lobster boats.

It's hard to tell, but it's a yoga class on stand up padel boards.

Of course, there has to be a picture of my bike with the Atlantic ocean and sail boats in the background.

And here is my van packed with bikes. So far it looks like the weather will be good for me to ride at Highland tomorrow before I meet my friends at the rental house in VT.

My recorded stats for July: 39 hrs 14 min and 515 miles. Thanks to the Strava malfunctions, the actual time was about 2 hrs and about 20 miles more. Fortunately, the new phone fixed the issues I was having with the GPS tracking.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to have a beer and take the next few days off. Maybe.

So I cracked a beer and asked my wife, "So where should I ride tomorrow?" She got a confused look on her face and replied, "Ride? I thought you were done?" I smiled and said, "What? You thought I was never going to ride a bike again?" And the saga continues...

And most definitely THANKS! @jdog

Day 31 - had great aspirations to crush 6 mile today in a tribute to Jay / Halters. For the first time all month family responsibilities affected my planning. Squeezed in a ride between seeing younger daughter Micayla and wife Susan off for a girls outing to Cape May and Pre Grandma Birthday celebration. Happy I stuck with it. I’m now retired and still had to work to fit the rides in. So amazing effort from the working folk that completed the challenge. I’m donating my card to the Youth MTB group. Enjoyed a nice Spanish take out with grandma and hanging with the pup enjoying a beer. Will try to keep the streak going.
