KfC is going to be at Marty's rep night

just go have fun and try to get on tv... i suggest getting a giant cardboard cutout of delish's head made and position yourself at a tricky spot on the course where you know there'll be tv coverage

p.s. soooo glad you're ok... super scary just to even hear about it... can't imagine actually being in the accident.

Made the decision not to even try to do worlds. I know YOLO etc etc but if I ever go to a World Cup race, it's gonna be with @Delish and a fun time, not jetlagged and ragged after a day of travel, and before a big day of meetings.

Some totally awesome news came this week: Thing #2 is officially free of food allergies. He had been allergic to treenuts, chickpeas and sesame. Long story but the short one is that his old doctor never wanted to challenge, even though his numbers seemed low. We wanted a second opinion, and the new doctor thought the numbers seemed low enough to challenge. Hooray!

kids grow out of food allergies pretty fast, unlike us adults who are gaining new ones every 5 yrs. My older, now almost 17, had a face like the moon at a few months, from whatever she ate for the first year. We made all her food from scratch and she eventually grew out of whatever made her allergic by year 2. She's now always eating food dropped on the floor so probably stronger because of it.

that's awesome on the food allergy - I had a ton of allergies as a kid/ was getting shots every week. Somehow the Easter bunny knew I couldn't have chocolate (yes, I was allergic to chocolate) and thank heavens for white clam sauce (I was allergic to tomatoes).

I was diagnosed with a tree nut allergy a few years ago - came back in bloodwork and skin test. Of course, I just downed a spoonful of Nutella before going to the doctor but apparently now I need to have an EpiPen for it. Overkill? perhaps...apparently I'm now allergic to raw apples, white potatoes...and then there's the list of chemicals and "environment". Put me in a bubble I suppose.

That's awesome! Did you go to an allergy specialist? What's the challenge test? Give him the offending food and see if he gets sick? Maybe I should mention it to Simon's pediatrician and see if she thinks it would be worth it.

We went to Hudson Essex Allergy in Belleville. We came armed with component blood test results, which showed the low numbers. This test is a new-ish form of IgE testing that actually measures the allergy to the proteins.
The oral challenge basically gives the kid the offending nut in incrementally larger doses, with 20 minutes between each dose. They are time consuming and lots of docs don't like to do them, probably because of this.

FWIW, I really liked the doc at Hudson Essex Allergy (Dr Weinstein). He seems to be genuinely interested in curing the allergies - he also does Oral Immunotherapy which is not something that our old allergist does, and from what I understand is fairly new also.

My wife has a a bunch of allergies and since I have known her, nuts have been added to the list. A blood based test a few years ago showed tree nuts were on again, but she never felt the need to challenge. Curious how consistent the blood based test are. She also have xwrcised induced allergy to gluten. Weird stuff.
