Western Monmouth County Trail Build

We have been doing some big digs lately in the bowl section of Mine Hill. It's been very satisfying getting these downhill turns in as it really affects the quality of the ride. The goal is to carry speed with very little braking...flow.

At the same time I wanted these turns to fit and look natural. This involved opening up the work zone, moving a lot of fill dirt to create inslope, then tie grades into surrounding elevations.

We have more work to do, I want to work the next turn further down the hill. Please come out and help if you can, we have multiple projects going on here and across the road. This place is shaping up nicely, come be a part of building this fun trail system. Currently we have 10 miles of fun flowee trail, with more trail to build.

Trail Builds; This Saturday, Build and Ride 4/27 & 5/11, 9am-12pm.
Wednesdays, 10am-1pm.
Reach out to me for parking location.

Yesterday was a great day to be out on trails. We had a nice group for the Build & Ride.

We worked on fixing a turn that was awkward due to the radius and quick change in elevation. This area was also wet and greasy during the winter months given how low it was.

Fortunately we had a pile of large rocks to pick from adjacent to the trail. A rock wall collapsed due to trees growing larger and we were able to shuttle them into place with the use of the monster hand truck, thanks @don 😀.

Raising the trail up about 30" at the low point got us up out of the wet zone. This was done with rock and a skin of soil was added to the top. It will act like a floating drain during the wet season, allowing water to bleed through the rock, keeping the surface dry. Also the radius was widened and grade change softened, to allow for faster speed through the turn. It's all about flow.
